New York State Thruway Installing Diesel Truckstop Electrification To Provide Heating/Cooling, Cut Idling Emissions

A $500,000 grant from New York State Thruway, Niagara Mohawk (electric utility) and New York State Energy R&D will pay for the first of 44 "truck stop electrification" units (see below) at a travel plaza near Syracuse. The system claims to save 18% cost versus running the diesel engine on idle for the same power output.
