CARB May mandate re-programming of diesel NOx 'defeat devices'
Diesel Fuel News, Feb 17, 2003
California Air Resources Board holds a workshop Feb. 24 to consider a mandatory reprogramming of diesel trucks fitted with so-called "defeat devices" from the 1990s. Only about 4% of such trucks have been reprogrammed since diesel engine makers signed a "consent decree" with U.S. EPA and CARB to fix the problem (see Diesel Fuel News 8/5/02, p14).
So, CARB is drafting a proposed rule to force such reprogramming on all 1993-1998 trucks.
