EPA discovers that gasoline, not diesel, the biggest 'Hazardous Air Pollutant" emissions problem
Diesel Fuel News, March 18, 2002
"Gasoline vehicles and gasoline non-road equipment are the largest contributors to mobile source ambient concentrations of gaseous HAPs," U.S. EPA revealed in a new study (SAE 2002-01-0650). However, aircraft and diesel engines accounted for proportionally greater amounts of carbonyl compounds, the study showed.
(PM filter-equipped diesels eliminate carbonyls, BP fleet tests in California show). Toxic HAP source contributions can vary considerably between urban and rural areas, the EPA study shows.
