Japan confirms plan to slash diesel PM, NOx on 2005 vehicles
Diesel Fuel News, March 18, 2002
Particulate matter (PM) would be cut by 75-85% on diesel trucks and other vehicles, while nitrogen oxides (NOx) would be cut by 4 1-50%, according to the Central Environment Council proposal. For 2005 vehicles over 3,500 Kg, the limit values (in grams/kW-hour, new transient mode) are: 2g NOx; 0.17g NMHC, 2.22g CO, and 0.027g PM, according to Japan Petroleum Energy Center data we obtained.
Following Environment Ministry deliberations, the new regulations would be formally announced early next year. Diesel engine maker R&D costs to meet new targets could provoke mergers among companies, one engine maker predicts.
