Malaysian palm oil factory switching from diesel power to waste palm-fruit bunches

Diesel Fuel News, April 15, 2002

According to a report last week from The Star (Kuala Lumpur), this scheme supposedly would eliminate 150,000 gallons/month of diesel fuel and cut expenses for fueling an 8.7-megawatt diesel generator for a palm oil factory. Esterified palm oil (one type of biodiesel) has also been proposed as a possible blendstock for diesel fuel in Malaysia.

But the real economic value of biomass electric generation schemes could depend upon winning "clean development mechanism" (CDM) credits pushed by the World Bank for Kyoto-style carbon emissions credits, the report said. Otherwise, diesel still can be cheaper.
