Sun Microsystems Inc has unveiled a new network card which the company claims is the industry's first to combine both gigabit Ethernet and fibre channel-arbitrated loop (FC-AL) capabilities on one PCI adapter.

The combination card's gigabit Ethernet portion is designed to give users the same performance as a standalone card, supporting both full and half-duplex interface connections, while the FC-AL portion offers high-bandwidth storage connectivity to high-capacity storage arrays.

Other features include full compliance with IEEE standards and FC-AL specifications for interoperability among vendors and easy integration with existing network infrastructure.

The Sun GigabitEthernet FC-AL/P combination adapter is available for USD2,995.
