US company TurboLinux Inc has released what it claims to be the first commercial offering combining the Linux operating system (OS) with an enterprise-class database system.

The offering - TurboLinux's DataServer OS integrated with IBM's DB2 Universal Database product - is designed to offer performance and high security through the OS and power and speed through the database for optimal backend server functionality. Features include 4Gb RAM addressable space, support for raw I/O devices and an integrated Java runtime environment.

The TurboLinux DataServer with IBM's DB2 Universal Database is available for GBP1,750.
