PictureTel is to launch a new camera system for videoconferencing at the CeBIT 2000 exhibition in Hannover, Germany at the end of February.
The CosmoCam system, which is a successor to the company's LimeLight product, is described as being voice-responsive and designed to automatically zoom in on the speaker, eliminating the need for participants in a videoconference to manually focus on the person who is speaking.

The system also recognises if a discussion is going on between participants in the videoconference and adjusts the angle to capture all speakers involved.
CosmoCam has been added to PictureTel's Concorde and Venue 50 videoconferencing systems. It can also be used in several other systems from PictureTel. Pricing was not disclosed.
