Worldwide Computer Products News-10 October 2000-Network Appliance unveils new products for streaming media delivery (C)1995-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Network Appliance has launched NetCache 5.0, its new software for the delivery of streaming media and video-on-demand.

The software delivers live webcasts and on-demand streams from the edge of the network to eliminate network and server bottlenecks. It also integrates the iCAP open protocol, which tailors the content delivered to suit the requesting technology such as wireless and handheld devices.

At the same time Network Appliance has introduced two new content delivery platforms, NetCache C6100 and NetCache C1105, and two new software offerings, ContentDirector and ContentReporter.

The C6100 delivery platform offers OC12-level streaming performance, multi-TB capacity and high scalability. It also incorporates special stream splitting technology that can deliver up to 3,000 streams from a single input.

The other new platform, the C1105, has been designed for remote/branch offices and remote POPs of ISPs and telcos. Features include storage capacity of 72Gb at 1U rack mount density and video-on-demand streaming at more than 70Mb/s.

The software offerings are designed to provide a management tool for policy-based content distribution and usage reporting, offering single-point control of globally distributed content, Network Appliance said in a statement.

Availability and pricing details were not released.
