The new Intel IOP310 I/O Processor Chipset has been made immediately available for consumers.

The Chipset is the first to be produced by Intel based on their recent XScale Microarchitecture, claimed by Intel to triple ordinary processing capabilities. It combines the Intel 80200 processor with the Intel 80312 I/O Companion Chip. The combination enables performance without creating as much heat, allowing developers to produce more compact equipment.

The Chipset is currently only available for sampling. The 333 MHz version of the Intel IOP310 I/O Processor Chipset is able to be purchased in quantities of 10,000 for USD70 each. The 600 MHz version comes at the price of USD93 each, again only available in quantities of 10,000.

Plans for a 733 MHz version are already underway although no pricing information has been announced as yet.
