Microsoft Corp has launched a trial programme for its forthcoming Office XP suite to allow over 1m customers worldwide to try out the software before it becomes commercially available on 31 May.

Through the programme customers will be able to order a free 30-day trial copy of Office XP beginning late May from http://www.microsoft.com/uk/office. Shipping and handling costs will be added.

Microsoft has also unveiled the product lineup and pricing details of the Office XP suite. For instance, Microsoft Office XP Standard, which is designed for users requiring a core set of desktop productivity, will cost GBP429 while a version upgrade will be priced at GBP199.

The suite will also include Microsoft Office XP Professional, priced at GBP519 for new users and with version upgrades costing GBP269, and Microsoft Office XP Professional Special Edition, which will be an introductory offer available only for a limited time to existing Office customers. This product will cost GBP319.

A product for professional software developers will also be part of the suite. Priced at GBP749, Microsoft Office XP Developer is designed to offer everything developers need to build and deploy integrated Office XP-based business systems. Version upgrades will cost GBP449.
