IBM is merge its IBM WebShpere Portal Server with the K-station portal of its Lotus Development Corp unit to deliver a single portal platform.

By combining the collaborative capabilities of K-station with the power of its own WebSphere IBM hopes to provide its customers with a more robust portal system. IBM intends to offer interoperability between WebSphere Portal Server and K-station in 4Q'2001 and full integration in 1Q'2002.

In related news IBM has expanded its catalogue of portal applications, or portlets, for WebSphere Portal Server. The new range includes portlets for WebSphere Host On-Demand, URL bookmarks, directories, POP3/IMAP e-mail, database query, Lotus Domino and Lotus Notes. Availability and pricing of the portlets were not disclosed.
