Microsoft Corp has launched Microsoft Outlook Mobile Manager, a desktop PC application designed to extend the reach and functionality of the Microsoft Outlook messaging and collaboration system to mobile devices.

The new application constructs personalised message filters based on communication from the user to determine which messages should be sent as urgent notifications to the user's wireless device. The product will also enable users to control how they receive calendars, tasks and reminder information to their mobile devices.

In addition Mobile Manager will integrate with Microsoft's Mobile Information 2001 Server and with the upcoming release of Office XP, the latest version of Microsoft's productivity tools suite.

Mobile Manager is available now and can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.microsoft.com/outlook/mobile/. The system requires Outlook 97 or later as the primary personal information management application.
