The software company Sybase Inc has made available the beta release of Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) v12.5, the latest version of the company's flagship relational database management system (RDBMS).

According to Sybase ASE 12.5 will be the first RDBMS to incorporate an integrated query facility, featuring an open query-engine that can search XML documents residing in the database or stored in a file.

Version 12.5 also offers Internet security and directory services and management of unstructured data to ensure that private data communications and storage stay private. In addition the software enhances e-business productivity by allowing developers to integrate XML-based applications with the database.
