Worldwide Computer Products News-12 July 2001-Experian introduces consumer identification software for financial services sector (C)1995-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The US-British information systems provider Experian has launched an online consumer identification system to help financial service providers combat money laundering.

Called e-identity, the scoring-based system is designed to enable financial service providers to authenticate the identity of consumers in real time prior to opening a bank account for them or selling them a financial product. The system references public and proprietary data sources to confirm both that a person exists and that the person is who he/she claims to be - removing the need for companies to use manual paper-based methods of identification such as passports, driving licences or utility bills, which can be fraudulently altered.

Availability and pricing were not disclosed.
