Compaq Computer Corp has expanded its Modular Array Storage family with a new high-capacity storage system called Enterprise Modular Array (EMA) 16000.

Designed for data centres with a need to configure high-capacity systems, EMA16000 provides up to 168 disks with a top capacity of 12.2Tb. When working at maximum capacity the system requires operational floor space of less than one square metre.

Other features include a fully integrated Fibre Channel storage solution, an ability to manage the system from a central location and a spindle count that supports the new 1" 72.8Gb Ultra3 SCSI 10,000rpm universal drives.

Availability and pricing were not disclosed.
