The US-based paper-to-digital systems developer ScanSoft Inc has unveiled version 11 of OmniPage Pro, its optical character recognition (OCR) technology.
The software converts all types of paper-based documents into the user's preferred applications, allowing information to be edited, archived and shared without retyping. The new version is ScanSoft`s first OCR product that also offers technology and expertise from Caere, a company ScanSoft acquired in March 2000.

The main improvement in OmniPage Pro 11 is its ability to convert PDF documents that contain text, tables and graphics into fully formatted documents that users can edit. Other enhancements include an increase of up to 40% in accuracy, support for 114 languages (instead of 14 in earlier versions) and the ability to recognise and retain the colour text on a page as well as background colours.
OmniPage Pro 11 is available immediately for GBP434.74. An upgrade from earlier ScanSoft OCR products costs GBP99.99.
