Tellabs has unveiled a new optical networking system called FOCUS HX for the management of large amounts of network traffic and to help service providers deliver converged services.
The FOCUS HX system supports traditional voice services as well as data and video. It also facilitates access technologies such as leased line, Internet protocol routing, ATM switching and Ethernet. The system can expand to increase line rates up to 40Gb/s, add switching capacity in steps of 100Gb/s and expand in the optical domain with 160 colours of dense wavelength division multiplexing.

FOCUS HX will be available in 3Q'2001 for service providers in Asia Pacific, Latin America and Europe. Pricing was not disclosed.
