Adobe Systems Inc has unveiled Adobe Acrobat 5.0, a major upgrade to its software designed to allow users to produce digital documents that retain the fidelity of the original document.

The latest version has been improved to enable business, graphic arts and IT professionals to work more efficiently in the new network publishing environment.

Enhancements include tight web integration to allow teams to simultaneously share comments on Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files from within a browser and support for eXtensible Markup Language (XML) to make it simple for users to integrate data, such as metadata and forms data, in Adobe PDF files.

In addition stronger integration with enterprise deployment tools enables the software to be auto-installed and maintained over a network to thousands of multi-user or lockdown desktop systems.

Adobe Acrobat 5.0 for Windows and Macintosh is expected to be available in the UK in 2Q'2001, priced at GBP205 VAT. An upgrade from earlier Acrobat versions will cost GBP75 VAT.
