Worldwide Computer Products News-9 May 2001-Agere introduces single-chip ATM port controllers for optical networks (C)1995-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Agere Systems Inc has expanded its APC family of full duplex ATM port controllers for OC-12c networks with two new single-chip products - APC Lite and APC Ultra Lite.

Both devices offer traffic management capabilities, including address lookup and translation, policing, administration and maintenance and hierarchical scheduling of ATM traffic. They can also be used in ATM switch applications such as media gateways, wireless basestations and digital loop carriers.

APC Lite has been specifically designed for network interface card applications. It can also be configured as a single-chip standalone switch capable of 622 Mb/s operation. APC Ultra Lite is similar to APC Lite but it is packaged in a smaller 680-pin plastic ball grid array to make it suitable for lower-cost small form factor applications.

Samples of both new devices are available now while volume production is expected by September. Pricing was not disclosed.
