California-based National Semiconductor Corp has introduced the National Geode Origami Mobile Communicator, its new prototype of a handheld device that integrates both Internet and multimedia functions.

Developed under a partnership between National Semiconductor, Studio RED Inc and CoCom International Ltd, the device can be used for wireless video communication, MP3 audio, Internet access and e-mail and as a phone, a digital camera, a video camcorder and a personal digital assistant.

Geode Origami, which is about the size and weight of a small digital camcorder, runs on Microsoft Windows Embedded XP and incorporates National Semiconductor's low-power Geode SC3200 processor. Other key features include a 4" TFT LCD 640 x 480 resolution display with touch-screen support, 16-bit stereo sound capability with a built-in microphone and speaker, a headphone and hands-free headset connector and USB and Compact Flash ports.
