SuSE Linux, a Linux software provider, has launched a version of SuSE Linux Firewall on CD for Virtual Private Networks.
The VPN Edition is designed as an application level gateway able to check, monitor, analyse and log ongoing data traffic. It also features the live system from SuSE Linux which allows the operating system to be booted directly from CD-ROM without installing it on the hard disk. This reportedly makes the firewall more secure as it is located on the CD-ROM and not able to be manipulated.

The firewall is available as either a Standard Edition or a VPN Edition. The Standard Edition is currently priced at GBP729 VAT with the VPN Edition retailing for GBP933 VAT.
