MIPS Technologies Inc and Green Hills Software Inc have teamed up to deliver a software development environment that is optimised for MIPS` MIPS32 and MIPS64 microprocessor architectures.

Targeted at MIPS' licensees, SOC developers and end users, the new end-to-end software development environment combines Green Hills' MULTI integrated development environment, simulators from MIPS, a hardware debug probe, operating systems support and select components from third parties.

The initial release of the development environment is scheduled to become available before the end of the year and it can be used to develop applications based on all MIPS32 and MIPS64 core families as well as application-specific extensions (ASEs) to these architectures. The system covers the entire development process, including simulation, codesign and coverification, application development and field support.

MIPS and Green Hills are also planning later releases that will add more functionality and support new MIPS cores and ASEs. Pricing details were not revealed.
