California-based Adobe Systems Inc has made available a public beta version of its forthcoming Acrobat Reader for Pocket PC software.

The new application allows users to view content in the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) on devices based on Microsoft Corp's Pocket PC software, including HP Jornada, Compaq iPAQ and Casio CASSIOPEIA personal digital assistants. Users will be able to read, navigate and search Adobe PDF documents either in their original format or reflowed to fit the width of a smaller handheld screen.

The product leverages Microsoft's ActiveSync applications to provide seamless transferring of Adobe PDF files to Pocket PC devices - users simply place an Adobe PDF file in the target folder on their desktop or laptop computer and the document is instantly available on the smaller device.

The beta version of Acrobat Reader for Pocket PC can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/ppcbetareg.html. The full software is expected to be available by the end of the year.
