Telecomms solutions provider Global Crossing has released a free Internet tool that can reportedly assist in the management and assignation of Internet Protocol address space.

The tool - FreeIPdb - is able to create an allocation process for IP addresses while providing a method of auditing existing address space usage.

The decision to offer the tool free of charge was made in a bid to prolong the life of the current IPv4 system until the IPv6 system becomes available, according to the company.

FreeIPdb is available now for free download from http://www.freeipdb.org.
