Chip maker Intel Corp has introduced a new 1.4 GHz version of its Intel Pentium III server processor with 512 KB of L2 cache.
The processor is manufactured using Intel's new 0.13-micron process technology and is aimed at rack-mounted or pedestal front-end application servers and the ultra-dense server market segment. According to the company, the new processor is able to deliver a balance of performance and power without sacrificing reliability.

Intel has also introduced the Intel Server Board SDS2, the Intel Server Board SAI2 and the Intel Server Chassis SC5100, all supporting the new processor. All products are reportedly optimised for systems that require cost-efficiency and high-performance such as e-mail, proxy/caching web and database servers.
The 1.4 GHz Intel Pentium III server processor with 512 KB of L2 cache is priced at USD315 in 1,000-unit quantities.
