Sun Microsystems Inc has introduced the Sun XVR-500 graphics accelerator for workstations and servers.

According to Sun the entry-level product doubles the geometry performance and improves texture mapping performance by 50% compared to the company's current entry-level offerings. Features include 16Mb of hardware-based memory dedicated to texture mapping operations, 32Mb of dedicated frame buffer memory and 32-bit Z-buffer support; stereoscopic video graphics support; and 24-bit colour and 10-bit RAMDAC video output.

The Sun XVR-500 graphics accelerator is available now, priced at USD1,195.
