IBM has revealed the latest version of its Linear Tape-Open product line for backup, archiving and disaster recovery operations.

The new LTO Ultrium tape storage product will offer storage capacity of up to 400GB and double the data transfer rate of the previous version. The device is now being shipped to manufacturers, and products featuring it are expected to be made available throughout 2003.

A spokesperson for IBM has said that the release of the new LTO Ultrium product coincides with the sale of the 100,000th IBM TotalStorage Ultrium LTO tape drive and the 50th anniversary of the invention of tape storage.

No pricing information was revealed.
