Microsoft Ltd has announced that the Windows '.NET' Server 2003 will contain a number of new storage technologies.

The Volume Shadow-Copy Service (VSS) and Virtual Disk Service (VDS) technologies are intended to provide users with interoperability between storage hardware, storage software and business applications. VSS is used to create shadow copies of documents, letting users view and restore old files. VDS operates by simplifying the configuration of disks so that a wider range of storage hardware can be used with them.
