Document solutions and services supplier Xerox Corp has introduced a new device aimed at the "light production" segment of the digital printing market.

The Xerox 1010 combines the speed and simplicity of a copier with the flexibility and finishing capabilities of a light production-printing device, according to the manufacturer. It is designed for large offices and small to medium-size print shops.

It produces black-and-white images with 600 x 600 dots-per-inch resolution, printing up to 101 pages per minute, and can be used as a production digital copier or connected to a network to provide a range of printer features, including scan to TIFF, job build, store and retrieval, and digital reprint.

Xerox claims that its new offering is the only product in its class with a scanner that can scan both black-and-white and full-colour documents.

The Xerox 1010 is priced at USD54,100 as a standalone digital copier, while a network-enabled Xerox 1010 copier/printer is priced at USD62,600 including the EFI Fiery EX 1010 controller, a workstation that processes jobs prior to printing. Various options are available including a high-capacity feeder and three-hole punching.

The device can be ordered in selected major US and Canadian markets from November 2002, with deliveries before the end of the year. Order-taking in European markets will begin in 2003.
