Microsoft Corp has unveiled a new update for the Windows XP operating system.

The service pack will reportedly contain a control for setting default middleware such as web browser and media player software. This is in compliance with the US Department of Justice's ruling in Microsoft's antitrust settlement.

The free service pack will be released in the next few days, according to Microsoft.
