Computer processor supplier AMD (NYSE: AMD) has announced that its Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP) can now be enabled on all AMD Athlon 64 processors after the release of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

EVP is a hardware and software combination designed to keep computers protected against certain malicious viruses, particularly those that execute buffer overflow attacks, computer worms and Trojan horses.

By default, Enhanced Virus Protection protects only the user's Windows operating system.
