Hardware, software and services provider Sun Microsystems Inc has released the beta version of its Java 2 platform, Standard Edition 1.5.

The new product is currently code named Project Tiger and includes new Java programming language updates that focus on ease-of-development, application monitoring and measurement features, rich client support for the PC desktop and enhanced performance. The platform is designed to be used by developers creating secure, portable, network-aware content and services, according to Sun Microsystems.

Users that are interested in participating in the beta release programme can register at http://www.java.sun.com/j2se/1.5. No pricing details were revealed.
