Integrated circuit developer AMD Corp has had its AMD Opteron processor chosen by IBM for use in its new line of IntelliStation A Pro workstations.

IBM can now offer its customers the choice of a 32-bit or 64-bit computing environment in a range of systems from supercomputers to workstations. AMD claims that the Opteron processors can be utilised in a number of applications including financial modelling, digital content creation and computer-aided engineering and design.

The cost of the Opteron-based systems and the financial terms of the agreement were not announced.
