IT manufacturers Dell and EMC have announced the launch of a new network storage system aimed at small businesses.

The AX100 is designed to be easy to use and inexpensive to install and maintain, making it attractive to small businesses, according to the companies.

They claim the AX100 can be set up to store between 480GB and 3TB of information and can be turned on in four steps once connected to a server. EMC has announced its own version of the AX100 - the EMC Clariion AX100 - which will retail at USD6000.

Dell says that it worked more closely with EMC on the design of AX100 than on any other product and that it would be extending its agreement with EMC until 2008.

The Dell/EMC AX100 will be available from 7 June 2004 from USD4,999 for direct-attached configurations and from USD9,999 for SAN configurations, reports Reuters.
