The Play Station Portable (PSP) is to incorporate Internet access, according to its manufacturer, Sony Corp.

Sony has reportedly made the decision to include Internet access in an attempt to boost the appeal of the device as a handheld entertainment centre. It is understood that Sony Computer Entertainment America is providing a software upgrade for PSP users to enable wireless Internet access. The software is thought to include software for a web browser enabling e-mail, entertainment content, news and online searches.

The software offered is also believed to improve video playback and digital photo-sharing capabilities, while increasing data security for the device. Sony claimed that the browser and extra functionality will improve the PSP user experience.
