The Perfection 4490 Photo scanner incorporating Digital ICE technology has been unveiled by Epson, the imaging products company.

The scanner is reportedly the only one of its class to include Digital ICE technology, which is said to remove dust and scratches, enabling easy restoration of old or damaged film. The Perfection 4490 offers 4800 x 9600 dpi resolution, can scan and save 35mm and medium format film as photographic images and is able to automatically detect whether a film is black and white or colour, positive or negative. It includes a preview mode and a Transparency Unit (TPU) able to support up to four 35mm slides, twelve 35mm frames, or one medium format film up to 6 x 12cm.

The scanner features one-touch scanning for copies, e-mails and PDF, an orientation process, high speed USB 2.0 interface and optional automatic document feeder for multiple documents. It also includes Epson Creativity Suite, ABBYY FineReader Sprint 6 (version 5 for Mac) and Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0.

The recommended retail price for the Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanner is GBP199.
