Internet search company Google Inc (NASDAQ: GOOG) has announced the launch of Google Desktop Search 1.0, a free downloadable application that allows users to search their own computers for information.

The release replaces the beta version of the application, and adds search over the full text of PDFs and meta-information stored within music, image and video files. Google said that new version also supports Firefox and Netscape Internet browsers, Thunderbird and Netscape e-mail clients and new Chinese and Korean language interfaces.

A spokesperson for the company said that Google Desktop Search brings the power of its Internet search to the information on the computer's hard drive, and that it is very happy to bring the application out of beta and will continue to develop desktop search for users worldwide.
