Worldwide Computer Products News-13 October 2005-Fujitsu Siemens presents FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader(C)1995-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

European-based IT provider Fujitsu Siemens Computers has launched its FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader, a solution for automated data backup and restore.

According to the company, the FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader is based on the new VXA-320 tape drive and offers twice the capacity and transmission speed of its predecessor, the VXA-2 PacketLoader. The device is a rack product with a single height unit and 10 cartridge slots, which saves space and makes it suited for small- and medium-sized enterprises or branches, the company claims. The device reportedly takes the individual cartridges from the corresponding slots and returns them on completion of backup fully automatically, enabling the automatic data backup to run unattended for up to 10 working days.

The FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader has a maximum storage capacity of 3.2TB and a maximum transmission speed of 80GB/h, which according to the company is four times the values offered by devices based on DAT-72 (Digital Audio Tape) and DDS-5 (Digital Data Storage) technology, and the tapes can be rewritten and read up to 500 times. In addition, the device is compatible with VXA-2 tapes.

The FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader will be available in November 2005. No pricing details were disclosed.
