Apple Remote Desktop 3, the third-generation of desktop management software from computer company Apple, has been unveiled for any computer running Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later and is optimised to benefit from the new Intel-based Macs.

The Apple Remote Desktop 3 builds on Mac OS X version 10.4 'Tiger' features such as Automator, Dashboard and Spotlight, offering more than 30 Automator actions for automating repetitive system administration tasks. It also provides Spotlight to search across multiple tiger systems, a Dashboard Widget for observation of remote systems and AutoInstall for installing software on mobile systems automatically when they return online.

Apple Remote Desktop 3 also includes system status indicators to enable administrators to check the overall health of multiple systems and a power copy files function up to 11 times faster than the previous version. It features AES 128-bit encryption, offers remote drag and drop of files and folders, remote copy and paste for text and image transfer and persistent task history and task templates for saving and replicating repetitive tasks.

In addition, curtain mode hides the system's desktop when it is being controlled remotely, while application usage and user history reports enable software to be tracked and use of unauthorised applications to be monitored.

Apple Remote Desktop 3 is available for GBP199 inclusive of VAT for managing up to ten systems and GBP349 inclusive of VAT for managing an unlimited number of systems.
