Worldwide Computer Products News-6 April 2006-Apple introduces public beta software version of Boot Camp(C)1995-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Boot Camp, a public beta application which enables Intel-based Apple Mac computers to run Windows XP, has been introduced by computer company Apple, simplifying Windows installation on an Intel-based Mac.

According to Apple, Boot Camp enables users with a Microsoft Windows XP installation disc to install Windows XP on an Intel-based Mac and restart their computer to run Mac OS X or Windows XP following installation. Apple will include the final version of Boot Camp as a feature in 'Leopard', the forthcoming Mac OS X version 10.5, to be previewed in August.

Boot Camp provides a graphical step-by-step assistant application to create a second partition on the hard drive for Windows, burn a CD with the Windows drivers required and install Windows from a Windows XP installation CD.

Boot Camp installation requires an Intel-based Mac, Mac OS X version 10.4.6 or later, 10GB of free space, the most recent firmware update and a single-disc version of Windows XP Home Edition/Professional with Service Pack 2 or later.

Boot Camp is available as a download from www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp on a trial basis for a limited period of time. Apple confirmed it has no intention of selling or supporting Windows.
