Siemens Enterprise Communications, a provider of Open Communications solutions for enterprises and a subsidiary of Siemens AG, announced on Monday (11 December) OpenStage, a new line of IP telephones.

According to the company, the OpenStage line comprises four models, ranging from basic to advanced, and combines ease-of-use with PC functionality. In addition, OpenStage phones utilise Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to integrate wired, wireless and IP communications, and include new conferencing and call features such as "push to conference", desktop call management or "presence"-based calling. The phones are said to support compatible third-party applications through standards-based technology such as Java, HTML, WML and XML.

OpenStage reportedly introduces a touch sensitive wheel, called TouchGuide, which allows access to the menu-driven user interface, while the TouchSlider controls the volume of the handset, ringer and speaker phone. In addition there are touch sensitive pre-set and programmable keys that provide access to frequently used applications and features, including address books, voicemail, conferencing, and speed dial. OpenStage allows users to dial using hands-free voice commands or a conventional keypad and includes a speaker phone that has been designed for conference calls, the company claims.

In addition, the OpenStage line features built-in Bluetooth support, a V.Card exchange, enabling users to transfer contacts between compatible mobile phones and the desk phone, as well as a USB port.No pricing details were disclosed.
