Technology solutions provider HP (NYSE:HPQ; Nasdaq:HPQ) and Cingular Wireless, a wireless carrier and a joint venture between AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) and BellSouth Corporation (NYSE:BLS), on Monday (11 December) jointly announced the availability of the nc6400, a notebook PC featuring built-in global mobile broadband capabilities.

The new notebook PC is claimed to be the first in the US to feature these built-in capabilities.

The HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC with integrated Cingular Wireless UMTS/HSDPA-based technology reportedly allows business professionals to connect in more areas at broadband speeds to corporate networks, e-mail and the Internet, without having to be tied to a wireless hotspot.

In addition customers can use mobile broadband both in the US, either with Cingular Wireless Broadband Connect or high-speed EDGE services, and abroad in more than 115 countries in which there are UMTS or GPRS/EDGE networks available.

The notebook has integrated high-performance dual antennas and Cingular Communication Manager to establish a wireless connection via Cingular's 3G network.

The nc6400 also features a 14.1-inch diagonal wide screen display, an optional HP Privacy Filter that helps ensure the screen is visible only to the user, Intel Core 2 Duo processors and support for 3D graphics.

HP and Cingular Wireless will jointly market the new business notebook.

The HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC, integrated with Cingular Wireless BroadbandConnect, is expected to be available in late December at a starting retail price of USD1,599.

HP nc6400 customers can get monthly unlimited Cingular BroadbandConnect service for USD59.99. International plans also are available.
