Worldwide Computer Products News-6 February 2006-Stabilus selects Nortel for network upgrade(C)1995-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Ethernet solutions from Nortel (NYSE:NT), a communications company, have been deployed for the upgrade of the network of Stabilus, a gas springs and hydraulic vibration dampers company.

Stabilus said the upgrade enables it to provide a communications foundation for the deployment of services such as media-rich applications and IP Telephony in the future. It said Nortel was chosen for the upgrade in order to ensure high availability standards and due to its previous experience of migrating to Gigabit Ethernet from existing ATM technology.

The network upgrade has been deployed with Controlware, Nortel's solution partner, and was required in order to remove network congestion and routing problems in the existing ATM infrastructure. The upgrade comprises two Ethernet Routing Switches 8600 which act as a virtual switch cluster in the core, with a combination of 45 Ethernet Switches 5510-24 and 20 Ethernet Switches 5510-48 at the Edge.

The Stabilus network includes more than 2,000 ports at the Edge but remains fairly simple, with Edge Switches and Servers connecting straight into the core. Nortel's switch virtualisation capability enables the switch cluster to appear as a single device, which means overall application availability is not impacted by a single element or component failure.
