Worldwide Computer Products News-8 February 2006-Dell tests Google search tools for new PCs(C)1995-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Search tools from Internet search engine company Google are being evaluated by computer manufacturer Dell, to determine if Google's software will be installed on Dell's products.

Dell is testing Google's search tools for the web and for documents stored on PCs and confirmed that this could result in a Google-powered home page, a Google Toolbar and Google desktop for new computers. If Dell decides to use Google for its new computers, the search engine is likely to become the default on millions of new computers.

Analysts claim that most computer users opt to use the software on the computer, rather than looking for alternative software. Google has formed agreements with Apple, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, Sony and Toshiba to date and seeks more agreements with manufacturers in order to access more computer users and generate more revenue from advertisers.

Windows software from Microsoft is used as the default operating system on many new PCs and the software company is reportedly developing search tools, though its position is not thought to be threatened by the current Google tests.
