A new version of the 17" iMac has been introduced for education customers, with a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor, by computer company Apple.

The new iMac features 512MB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM expandable to 2GB, a 24x Combo drive for burning CDs and reading DVDs, Intel GMA 950 graphics, 80GB Serial ATA hard drive (7200rpm) and a widescreen LCD display. It offers a mini-DVI out, Mighty Mouse and Apple keyboard, iLife '06 suite and iSight video camera and the most up to date release of the Mac OS X version 10.4.6 'Tiger' operating system.

The iMac features built-in 10/100/1000 BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed networking, AirPort Extreme 802.11g WiFi for up to 54Mb/s wireless networking, three USB 2.0 ports and two FireWire 400 ports.

The 17" iMac starts at a suggested education price of GBP639 including VAT and offers built-to-order options and accessories such as 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB Serial ATA hard drive, iWork '06, Apple Remote and Apple USB Modem. It replaces the eMac and is available for education customers through the Apple Store for Education and via Apple Education Specialists.
