Worldwide Computer Products News-30 June 2006-Microsoft delays release of Office 2007(C)1995-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The release of the Office 2007 business productivity software from Microsoft Corp has been delayed from October until the end of 2006.

Microsoft has opted to delay the release in order to improve product performance and said it will also postpone the general availability of the Office upgrade to early 2007, put back from its previous January target.

The introduction of the 2007 Microsoft Office package, which includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint, has previously been delayed to coincide with the postponed release of the company's Windows Vista operating system. The Vista release was delayed until after the holiday shopping season to allow improvements to be made to the quality of the system.

According to Microsoft, the Office release has been delayed to enable it to use feedback from its latest 'beta' test release to revise its development schedule. Industry analysts said a delay to the release of the new Windows system is also anticipated.
