Worldwide Computer Products News-19 May 2006-Lucent and Top Global introduce a Business Continuity Wireless Gateway solution(C)1995-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU), a provider of systems, services and software for next-generation communications networks, and Top Global, a wireless systems company, announced on Thursday (18 May) a Business Continuity Wireless Gateway solution.

According to the companies, the aim of the Business Continuity Wireless Gateway solution is to help enterprises backup and recover their wireline network in the event of a natural disaster or other disruption. It combines remote technical and integration support from Lucent's services organization with the Top Global MobileBridge mobile/portable wireless communications gateway as a total solution offer by Lucent.

The Top Global MobileBridge reportedly remains in hot standby mode when IP traffic is flowing normally along the primary data path. When a network interruption is detected, the MobileBridge establishes a high-speed broadband wireless link and all data traffic is routed over the cellular data network. During the period, auto-reconnect is enabled to maintain a consistent wireless broadband link. When the primary data path is restored, the MobileBridge disconnects and returns to hot standby mode until needed again, the company claims. The MobileBridge uses 1xRTT, EVDO, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA wireless data networks to maintain the connectivity between a client's location and the Internet, or other corporate networks. No financial or pricing details were disclosed.
