PCs embedded with a 32GB NAND flash-based solid state disk (SSD) are to be introduced by digital media technology company Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, reportedly marking the first release of NAND flash into a commercial mobile computing application.

Samsung Electronics will introduce the Q1 ultra-mobile computer and the Q30, a 12.1" notebook PC, in the Korean market from the beginning of June 2006. Both offer 32GB SSD storage, DDR 2 400MHz, 512MB memory, Intel GMA 900 graphics, TFT-LCD screen, DVMT video memory, embedded DMB and SRS 3D Sound Support.

According to Samsung Electronics the Microsoft Windows XP operating system will boot up 25-50% more quickly on the SSD than on other drives. It also claimed the SSD reads 300% faster and writes 150% more quickly than standard hard drives. This enables large volumes of data to be edited and reproduced more efficiently and allows multiple application programs to operate simultaneously.

The Q1-SSD is expected to retail for KRW2.3m while the Q30-SSD will be priced at KRW3.5m.
