Information technology company IBM (NYSE:IBM) announced on Wednesday (15 November) that its Internet Security Systems division will offer customers a new hardware solution for centralised security management.

According to the company the new appliance, based on the existing IBM Proventia Management SiteProtector software, has been designed to facilitate the centralised control of security components for companies of various sizes.

Proventia Management SiteProtector reportedly enables companies to centrally manage their entire range of Internet Security Systems technologies, including network-based intrusion prevention, multi-function systems, server and desktop security, vulnerability management, anomaly detection and e-mail security. The new appliance form of the product is expected to simplify security management procedures and decrease time spent installing, configuring, maintaining and upgrading the product. Additional new features include a more intuitive policy management process, enhanced options for traffic analysis, and an "update now" feature for immediate security content updates, the company claims.

The Proventia Management SiteProtector hardware is scheduled to be available by the end of November 2006. No pricing details were disclosed.
